Chapter 3 Documents

I feel that these accounts are amazing as this writer listed all of the practices of some of the nations he observed. But as with every piece of writing it can be biased because depending on how the writer was treated is how they will slant their writing of their experience. Like people say what some people do cannot represent everyone.

Chapter 3 Civilizations

In this chapter we see the rise of civilizations that most people today know about in the Greek, Roman, Persian, and Chinese empires. The Persian empire was the first empire that was talked about and were a powerful bunch. They were the first to have a set government system which was a monarchy where one leader had all the power. The king had people underneath him but they were pretty much pawns that just kept the people of the kingdom in line. The empire was a conquering one as they expanded a lot during their existence and were known for adopting certain traits or things from the conquered nations. But one civilization they had rivaled during their time was the Greeks. The greeks were run differently from the Persians as each city state had a say in the overall well being of the empire. It was a unique idea for that time as most civilizations were run like the Persian empire. The greeks and Persians clashed a lot because of their different styles and cause they were in each others wa...

Chapter 2 Evidence

Using Art as Evidence What can we learn about the Indus Valley civilization from these visual sources?   We can learn a little bit about their advancements and maybe how far along they were compared to other civilizations of their time period. The seals that they found are most interesting as they used animals to show rank, authority, or level of importance. That shows that they used pictures to covey messages that other civilizations would use writing for which was huge as maybe the Indus were not able to write yet. The book says how because of the numerous sculptures and statues and no evidence of writing that this civilization had not advanced in the writing field.
Chapter 1 Around 12,000 years ago we saw the introduction of what we call the Agricultural Era. We saw humans lean more toward growing what they eat and breeding animals just for eating. We saw our development of "directing" nature into what we needed it to be which is more to what we see now in a more drastic form. Examples are finding a way to make corn grow a lot longer, inventing technology and methods to make farming easier, and selectively breeding animals to get the best product from them. The global warming helped lead the way to new technological advances such as the sickle in the Middle East, Amazon people learning how to cut back plants to encourage growth, and Australians building traps to capture eels. He also mentions how women played a huge role in the development and creation of our modern agriculture while men were associated with hunting. Each continent farmed and found specific foods that were crucial to their survival in their respective environments. Wi...
Intro chapters Reading the beginig of the prologue I am very amazed at how in a span of 1 year we see the history and creation of the universe and within a minute we see that the first humans appeared. Homo Sapiens were created within the last minutes of the last day of December nearly 2.7 million years ago. But for being in existance shorter than other animals we have seen the most growth and evolution of all species. We have shown to be more adaptable to learning new things, can create and build things, and have impacted the world in different ways. The Paleolithic age accounts for around roughly 95% of our human history which is amazing as that is only in reality 250,000 years. We started as out as slow footed and small to the different types of people we have today. In chapter 1 I was amazed to read that there is a group of people that model their community after the old gatherer hunters as they traveled to different places within their region to farm and grow their fruits and v...
